How’s he doing so far?

By Robert Black
Approaching the 100th day of Barack Obama’s Presidency, the Rutgers Prep community is reacting favorably to the new President. Obama’s approval rating among the student body is 50%, with 20% disapproving and 30% unsure of what they think. RPS Name Recognition Poll

The fifth and final survey of the RPS community conducted on the behalf of The Argo during the 2008-09 school year was conducted in five parts stretching from late February all the way into early April. This marathon poll attempted to gauge how well known various public figures are in the community. In each of five installments, each respondent, including both students and faculty, were given a list of 15 names and asked whether they had heard of each and, if so, whether they felt at least somewhat familiar with who that person is. The results were most interesting, and I will first look at each subcategory of name polled on and will then examine the broader trends, interesting quirks, and age breakdowns for the survey as a whole.

It happened with Boys Don’t Cry nearly ten years ago; it happened with Whale Rider in 2002; it happened with Maria, Full of Grace in 2004; and, now, it has happened again with Frozen River.

Taking a Silent Stand

“What will you do to end the silence?” were the words printed on the backs of over 60 students and faculty at Prep on April 17th 2009.
These words were part of an event, called the Day of Silence, meant to represent the silence of many LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning). It was started in 1996 and has since been continued every year on one day in April.

The Roaring of the Duck

The first of golf’s major championships, the Masters Tournament, is held each year on the second full weekend in April, and for the past couple of years had seemed a little bit lacking. The Masters is the only major that is held every year at the same golf course, Augusta National Golf Club, and Augusta is a course rich in history and tradition as well as physical beauty.
