Want This? Try That: Dress Code Alternatives for Girls
By Olivia Glassman
We all know how it feels to put on a comfortable, oversized sweater. But don’t you wish you could have the warm feeling of your sweatshirt in the classroom too? Well, now you can! Wearing a long cardigan is the perfect alternative to a sweatshirt. For an instant laid-back and comfortable look, scrunch up the sleeves half to three-quarters of the way and pair it with leggings. You can also try wearing one with the season’s biggest trend, the metallic legging. Keep in mind one of fall’s hottest colors is red, which can be a great color for a cardigan. If you don’t want to wear a long cardigan, there’s a variety of fun new jackets to wear this season. Leather jackets are a necessity for fall, but you can also try the popular band jacket or motorcycle jacket. No matter what jacket you wear, you will definitely be warn for the dropping temperature.
Everyone knows that, since blue jeans are out of dress code, you are allowed to wear jeans in other colors. But aren’t you boredwith your old colored jeans? If you are, try this season’s fastest growing trend, legging jeans. Legging jeans are essentially thicker leggings with pockets and zippers made to look like jeans. If you like skinny jeans, you will love legging jeans, which come in a variety of denim colors. For fall, you might want to wear them in an earthy color, like brown, dark green, or a rusty red.
Hats are generally worn for two reasons: to keep us warm and to add the perfect touch to any outfit. Unfortunately, girls and guys can’t wear hats at Prep. A great substitution for both genders is a scarf. The most popular patterns right now are checkered and plaid. A red or blue plaid scarf would go great with one of fall’s new brown leather jackets. Try adding a leather jacket to give a girly jacket a bit of an edge.
Lastly, for a daring look, you may want to try Harem pants, the latest comfortable, celeb-inspired alternative to sweat pants. Sometimes referred to as Aladdin pants, they are pants that are narrow at the waist, full at the thigh, and nipped at the calf or ankle. Stars like Sienna Miller have been seen sporting these pants for a laid-back, casual look. If they are made with the right material, they can be worn to school, and they are just as comfortable as sweat pants. You can buy Harem pants for a cheap price at Forever 21.

Watch out with the legging jeans. Some teachers still consider them to just be leggings. We don’t want a demerit!

Don’t worry about getting a demerit. Girls get away with everything when it comes to dress code.
