Exquisite Café Amici
By Akshay Desai
Delicious, Tasty, Awesome – since 1991, these words have been used to describe Café Amici, a family pizzeria that has provided Somerset with great food for eighteen years. I went to Café Amici for the first time on October 1st of this year, and to say I was satisfied afterwards would be a gross understatement. Upon entering the café, I immediately felt that I was entering a comfortable family restaurant that had become a mainstay for Somerset residents.
The Rutgers football rally towel with the words “Go Scarlet Knights” and the pictures of famous New York Yankees players on the walls immediately convey the fact that Café Amici has a great connection to the community that it serves. But the real treats of Café Amici are obviously not the pictures of Yankee players plastered to the wall. After my first bite of their Chicago Style deep-dish pizza, I found my taste buds overwhelmed with a flavor and taste explosion of roma tomatoes and delicious cheese. This pizza’s crust was also cooked to a perfect crisp. The savory pizza, in combination with the amazing pasta primavera, made an amazing dinner, with each bite increasing in flavor and deliciousness.
As I ate my dinner, I noticed the steady stream of people that entered the café to sit down and eat or pick up their take-out orders. Frankly, I don’t blame them. Café Amici’s large variety of tempting items makes it a very attractive option for people looking to get a great meal without making their wallets a whole lot lighter when they leave. With such awesome food for such an affordable price, I left Café Amici feeling that I had truly eaten at one of the best places that Somerset had to offer.
Taking all of this into account, to not go to Café Amici for lunch or dinner would be an enormous travesty. There is, in my opinion, no conceivable way that a person could leave the café unsatisfied with what they ate. I personally recommend all those looking for a delicious experience to pay a visit to this tasty Italian eatery located at 225 Demott lane: Café Amici.

I read this article, a couple weeks back, and thought to myself, “Yeah, sure, it’s just another pizza parlor, albeit with a more inviting atmosphere. Pizza Brothers is probably just as good, if not better.” Then, a few days later, Mr. Cohen hosted the oldest living Alumni lunch, catered by, yup, you guessed it: Cafe Amici. The first thing I noticed about the pizza was the mouth-watering aroma, then the sheer thickness of the pizza slice itself. It was humongous! It was great tasting, did not have too much oil, and was without a doubt, one of the best slices of pizza I’ve ever eaten! Thank you so much for introducing me to my new favorite pizza place!
